Therapeutic Botox Treatment for Better Oral Health & Pain Relief

Botox isn’t just for cosmetics — it has valuable uses in dentistry too. When used correctly, Botox can help treat a number of dental and facial conditions by relaxing overactive muscles and relieving tension. We use it as a minimally invasive option to manage jaw pain, bruxism (teeth grinding), TMJ disorders, and even certain types of facial pain or headaches.

Botox works by targeting and calming specific muscles involved in dental problems. The result? Less pain, fewer dental complications, and better function — all without surgery or medication.

Why Use Botox Treatment for Dental Needs?

If you’ve never considered Botox as part of your dental care, you’re not alone. Many patients are surprised to learn just how effective it can be when used by a trained dental professional. Here's why we may recommend it:

  • Relieve jaw tension and facial pain from TMJ disorders
  • Reduce headaches caused by clenching or grinding
  • Minimize tooth damage from bruxism (grinding or clenching)
  • Improve facial balance in cases of high lip lines or gummy smiles
  • Provide relief from chronic facial tension

What to Expect During Your Botox Appointment

GENTLE AND PRECISE INJECTIONS
Your comfort is our priority. We use small, precise amounts of Botox and place it only where it’s needed. Most patients describe the treatment as feeling like a small pinch — quick, simple, and well-tolerated.

TARGETED TREATMENT FOR LASTING RELIEF
Once injected, the Botox works by relaxing overactive muscles and reducing involuntary movement that causes pain or dysfunction. This effect typically begins within a few days and reaches full effect in about 1–2 weeks.

ONGOING CARE AND MAINTENANCE
Depending on your specific needs, Botox treatments may be repeated every 3–6 months for continued relief. We’ll monitor your progress and adjust your treatment plan to keep you feeling your best.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does botox last?

Most dental Botox treatments last about 3 to 4 months, depending on how your body metabolizes the medication.

is botox safe for dental use?

Yes. When used by trained dental professionals, Botox is considered very safe. It has a long track record of clinical use for both cosmetic and medical conditions. Dr. Ayala is certified by the American Academy of Facial Esthetics to administer Botox treatments.

Can botox replace a nightguard for grinding?

Botox can reduce muscle activity that causes grinding, but it doesn’t replace the protection a night guard offers. In many cases, we use both together for best results.

does botox hurt?

Most patients say the injections feel like a small pinch. Discomfort is generally minimal and brief.

will i be receiving brand-name botox?

At our office, we use Xeomin, which has the same active ingredient as brand-name Botox.

who is a good candidate for dental botox?

If you suffer from TMJ pain, chronic clenching, headaches, or facial muscle tension, you may be a candidate. We’ll assess your condition and let you know if it’s a good fit.

will you bill my dental or medical insurance for my botox treatment?

At this time, we don’t bill medical insurance for Botox treatment. While Botox can be helpful for TMJ-related symptoms, most insurance plans still consider it cosmetic and do not cover it—even when used for therapeutic reasons.

Because of that, we offer this treatment strictly as a self-pay service. The average treatment is between 20 and 40 units, at $14 per unit. We typically schedule these appointments exclusively on Fridays, with a $50 deposit that goes toward your treatment.
